WHO ARE WE
Who We Are
Our congregation is composed of people of all ages and backgrounds. In our church you will find all kinds of people with many different beliefs. Presbyterians hold to the notion that belief and practice should be governed by each person’s own conscience. Of course, we are guided by our study of the Bible, the historic confessions of the church, and the teachings of our pastors. (Pastors of the Presbyterian Church (USA) spend at least seven years in college and seminary study before their ordinations.) Nobody at First Presbyterian Church will tell you what you have to believe to be saved. Instead we will commend to you the words of St. Paul in Romans, chapter 10, verse 9: “If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
Most of the work of the church is done by the people in the pews. First Presbyterian Church of Lincoln offers plenty of opportunities for Christian service. If gardening interests you, there’s a place for you in our community garden. We also need people who are interested in worship, visitation, church maintenance, finance, and missions.
